Hello.

My husband and I left our lives in Sydney to go travelling for the rest of 2016. What started as a one month honeymoon has turned into a four month adventure.

Day 38: The Hills

Day 38: The Hills

To put it simply, we were exhausted. After a month of non-stop travelling, eating, drinking, driving and boating (poor us?), we needed to press pause for a bit. Fortunately Acetaia Sereni was booked for two nights – a balsamic vinegar farm in the hills of Modena where we could sit around the pool and do nothing at all for 30 hours.

Because we drove up at night, we had no idea of the view that was waiting to greet us in the morning. It was amazing. After a delicious home cooked breakfast at the hotel, we decided to go for a walk around to check out the views. And that's about the extent of our day. Perfect.

I just can't capture the beauty so just know that it's really pretty, okay?

Dinner at the agriturismo!

We'd been wanting to try gnocco fritto (fried bread) and tigelle (flat pancake-like bread), and we would have missed this menu item had the Italians next to us not ordered it. It was everything we wanted – breads, cured meats, cheeses and jams.

The waitress told us (in Italian) how to combine these together. With the tigelle, you cut it in half butter it up with lardo, sprinkle with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and add your meats and cheeses. They were like little sandwiches and were so good. This was definitely a success.

Gramigna pasta with sausage ragu. Simple but (you guessed it) delicious.

I was full from all of the meats and cheeses, but like a brave soul, I soldiered on.
