Hello.

My husband and I left our lives in Sydney to go travelling for the rest of 2016. What started as a one month honeymoon has turned into a four month adventure.

Day 48: Won't You Take Me To Truffle Town?

Day 48: Won't You Take Me To Truffle Town?

It's our last day in Italy (how did that happen?!). We're not done with Europe though – we still have Bordeaux and San Sebastian ahead of us which means more eating and wining. Dieting and exercise can wait.

Montepulciano has been wonderful. The little cobblestone streets, incredible views and their appreciation for truffles and wine made it a whole lot of fun.

To try and "exercise" and see something new, we walked to a church down the hill. We were the only ones in the church which was pretty cool but also a bit creepy. While I didn't take a photo inside, I had to laugh at the Tripadvisor rating sign they…

Little yellow tulips grow on the side of the road. I can barely grow tulips at home.

Here you can tell that a) we are getting lazy and b) running out of money. Gnocchi with pre-bought arrabbita sauce, fresh tomatoes and basil.

The afternoon saw us go to Avignonesi – the region's second largest winemaker. It was the last day of harvest so you can kind of make out a group of people picking grapes in the vineyard.

And some tasting.

I like a tasting that also gives you breads to eat at the same time.

Our final dinner! We chose Osteria Acquacheta as they had massive steaks and were apparently really, really good. Spoiler alert: we weren't disappointed.

While the title of this post suggests we had a lot of truffle, we didn't have as much as we did the night before. Buuuuuuut hey, look at this guy. Baked pecorino with fresh truffle shaved over it. Ugh, so good.

They present the steak to you before they cook it, which was cool but also freaked me out a bit... Adam and I are going to eat all that? Oh god.We didn't feel too bad, however, as the American man next to us (not pictured) had to order a whole steak…

We didn't feel too bad, however, as the American man next to us (not pictured) had to order a whole steak and truffle cheese on his own because his wife didn't want any of it. Impressively, he ate the whole thing.

The glorious steak. Just yes.A perfect way to end our time in Italy.
