Hello.

My husband and I left our lives in Sydney to go travelling for the rest of 2016. What started as a one month honeymoon has turned into a four month adventure.

Day 42: Searching For Botticelli

Day 42: Searching For Botticelli

Another sunny day in Florence. We spent most of the morning hanging about trying to pre-plan our winery visits in Tuscany (a long and painstaking process). A seemingly wasteful way to spend a sunny morning in Florence but with the 360 views from our Airbnb, it almost felt like we were sightseeing anyway.

We dragged ourselves out of our hideaway and grabbed some ingredients for lunch and retreated back to our kitchen for a simple sandwich lunch on the balcony. Easy. Cheap. Not crowded.

Don't worry guys, we actually did do something in the end. We pre-purchased tickets to the Uffizi Gallery for 5pm so we wandered down their to get our fix of art.

This place was about 15 metres from our place and, to be honest, that's about as far as we wanted to walk to get ingredients for a simple lunch. And then we got distracted my pistachio and custard pastries.

It was a good idea to go to the gallery quite late because even though it was crazy busy when we were there, I can only imagine it would be more unbearable in the peak times. Some rooms (the rooms with Bottecelli) you had to line up for ten minutes to get in, which was fine but when you got in there, it was so busy and full of people taking photos of the art that it ruined the whole experience.

Taken in an outdoor area of the gallery. Not shown, the 100 or so people taking pretty much the same photo.

Yes, I'm a bit negative about the gallery but I just don't handle crowds well. So a negoni was in order. We found this little bar at a piazza nearby our place which quite possibly served the worst negroni in Italy. Yes, it is possible for Italians t…

We retreated to the safety of our Airbnb just in time for a beautiful sunset. God I love this apartment.

Our €6 dinner – pappardelle with tomato and basil. Simple but delicious. And cheap... Which is pretty much the name of the game this far into our holiday.
