Day 91: Meet The Leafers
We had a bit of a rude awakening this morning with an EARTHQUAKE! It was about 6am and suddenly the room started swaying slowly. Adam thought it was me rocking him for some reason but when the shaking didn't stop I made us get out of bed and find safe places to stand. Adam was half asleep in the door way and I had crammed myself under the table. Turns out it was a fairly big one up north and there were tsunami warnings but thankfully no one was hurt and there were no tsunamis in the end. Bit of a scary experience though! Reminds me of when I was back in Tokyo for the March 11 earthquake.
In all the time I've spent in Tokyo, I've never once been to Shinjuku Gyoen. We would always go to Yoyogi Park because (I'm assuming) it's free to go there and you can drink. You do have to pay a small entry fee to go to Shinjuku Gyoen (it's only about ¥200 or something) but it's a pretty amazing place and even more amazing-er in autumn when the leaves are changing colours. So on a relatively warm day in November we headed to the park for a picnic and to do some leaf spotting.
We headed to Isetan's food basement to stock up on bits and pieces for the picnic. Doing it like this, we soon realised, was very expensive buuuuut we were already too far into the food purchasing we couldn't turn back now.
Picnic spread for two.
Adam loves his yakitori.
Hooray for self timers and mini tripods!
I saw a whole bunch of people taking photos of these so I thought I would join them.
In love with this spot.
A leafer in full effect.
Another leafer in full effect.
After a long day of leafing, I headed over Vivian's house where Vivian, Kumraz and I drank champagne which Vivian happened to "find" in her fridge and eat some poorly put together snacks.
