Hello.

My husband and I left our lives in Sydney to go travelling for the rest of 2016. What started as a one month honeymoon has turned into a four month adventure.

Day 29: The Unsuccessful Search For Flamingos

Day 29: The Unsuccessful Search For Flamingos

So this is what happens when you don't plan your day and just "go with it". You end up in some backwater town hunting for flamingos that may or may not exist.

We got upgraded to the junior suite in our hotel, which seemed like a great thing before we got to the room, but it was the most curious of hotels we've been to. A mix of old furnishings, creepy artworks, life threatening staircase and showers that don't work, it was definitely an odd experience. Still though, the breakfast was great and it seemed to be in a good part of town.

Looking up the streets. I'm down with this pastel pink building opposite us.

We had time to kill before checking into our place in Cala Gonone, so we drove up north to Sinis Peninsula because I had my heart set on finding some flamingos. While we did not find any flamingos, we found this almost deserted beach town which was strange and depressing but was oddly full of older tourists in comfortable walking shoes (apparently they were walking to San Giovanni di Sinis).

One last try at finding flamingos. No flamingos, but a rather calm waterside spot.

In an attempt to not completely waste our time in this part of the world, we decided to try and find some nice beaches. What we didn't expect was lots of unsealed roads and some rough and ready beaches. But hey, it's all experience right?

Adam loves Autogrills, so when we passed one on the highway we had to check it out. Adam pointed out that it was way smaller than the ones he's seen before, but it was still full of all the essentials including Ferrari caps, huge buckets of popcorn …

We got a little pizzetta for a driving snack. Not bad for €1,20.

We finally made it to Cala Gonone. While our room is really plain at Hotel Cala Luna, it's literally across the road from a bunch of small beaches with clear water and lots of small fish.

Murals are found everywhere around these here parts.

While the views from our room aren't the best, at least we get to see a nice pink sunset.
