Day 14: Swamp Life
Finally! A day that doesn't revolve around eating a drinking. Today we booked ourselves into an airboat swamp tour about 30 minutes out of New Orleans city. The tour promised we'd see gators and they weren't lying – I even got to touch one of them.
Our hotel in New Orleans – It's about the size of many apartments in Sydney. There's even a blender here for me to consider making smoothies but never actually doing it.
We made the calculated move to share our breakfast bagel from Stein's Market & Deli today. It was a good idea.
Stein's Market & Deli on Magazine Street.
Love the buildings here.
This house is all in on the Mardi Gras.
Airboooooaaaaattttt!
It gets LOUD.
*insert True Detective theme music here.*
Spooky.
He's coming right for us!
Safety first.
Safety last.
On a side note, alligators happily eat marshmallows.
The rains are comin'!
The rains are here and got us good.
Swamp storm!
Taking a ride on the street car (not named Desire). It's only $3 for a 24 hour pass.
It's actually a fun way to get around town.
The famous charbroiled oysters from Drago's. Buttery and delicious.
Alligator nuggets because we had to try alligator. It actually tastes like chicken.
We saw alligators, we ate alligators.
A plate of yellows. This was the mock shrimp boil with all the fixins – corn, sausage, rosemary potato, bread and prawns. TBH, this place was okay, but pretty damn expensive for what we got. It was one of the most expensive dinners of the trip!
Just a coupla seafood loving Aussies.
While we were waiting for the street car, there were a whole bunch of people waiting around on lit up bikes. Someone yelled for them to get going and off they went...
Just another Tuesday night.
