Day 15: Dooky Chase's, Fried Chicken And Sazeracs
It's our last day in New Orleans so we had to tick off a bunch of the food items off the list.
- Beignets - DONE
- Po'boys - DONE
- Gumbo - SOON
- Sazeracs - (not a food) but SOON
- Fried chicken - SOON
- Crawfish boil - MAYBE
- Muffaletta - DONE
- Red beans and rice - SOON
- Peach cobbler - SOON
- Chargrilled oysters - DONE
I've been wanting to go to Dooky Chase's for a while so today was the day to make it happen. We took a ride on the street car (I love those things) with our one day "Jazzy Pass" (great name) and headed to this 75 year old restaurant that Obama has eaten at. I'm not what you'd call a buffet person (I don't eat much so it's a waste on me) but the lunch buffet ticked a bunch of things of the list so I was all in.
After a whoooole lot of food, we walked it off by looking at some pretty fantastic homes in the Garden District, happy hour at Lüke and a final dinner at Cochon. We were exhausted and in bed by 8.30pm. So much for partying in the Big Easy!

It's hot here. Real hot.
Streetcar life.
On the streets.
Keen beans as we were, we were there 10 minutes before it opened.
The first ones there! It did pack out by 11.20am though.
Look up - that's Obama tucking a napkin into his shirt at Dooky Chase's!
Le buffet.
How the fried chicken stays so fresh and crispy I'll never know.
Ughhhh, so goooood. Seriously, the fried chicken was amazing. And I love me a bit of Creole sausage.
Some of the houses here are so big! What do you do with all of those rooms? Seriously, tell me, I'm from Sydney and can only *barely* afford to rent a one bedroom apartment.
Just a cool $9.5 million estate.
Big ass columns right here.
The best French 75s in New Orleans. I can't confirm this but they were damn good and at half price during happy hour I was on board.
Oyster and bacon pie from Cochon. This place is awesome.
Pork and pickled peaches. So many shades of brown.
Feeling a little tipsy after taking advantage of happy hour cocktails at Lüke.
And some final scenery shots...
And with that we say "see y'all" to New Orleans. It's been fun.
