Day 94: Cooking School
One thing I'd been really wanting to do in Japan was to do a Japanese cooking class. Most of the ones I'd seen online seemed really expensive and did things like make sushi which I've already done a few times. Our mate So came to the rescue (again) because his Dad very conveniently runs cooking classes from his office space in Shinjuku. Keen to try out his classes on English speakers, Adam, myself and one of their Airbnb guests became cooking class guinea pigs which was a win for everyone involved. It took the better part of the afternoon and we ended up cooking things I've never cooked before and had a pretty great feast by the end of it.
Thanks So and So's Dad!
Adam learning how to properly prepare rice.
Frankly terrifying cutting methods. I tried this but feared for my fingers and travel insurance so ended up cheating.
Fried tofu. I was in the process of finally chopping this for the rice dish.
These faces say "we're a little too excited about the whole thing."
Serious concentration right here.
Adam making tamago-yaki. It's haaaaard.
Me taking great care in mixing the rice.
Plating up.
Ta-da!
Food photo shoot.
What am I even doing?
The view from the balcony. See Mt Fuji in the background?
The entrees we made.
Fancy rice.
The best thing is that we got leftovers to eat the next day/when we got home. This was a super fun afternoon, if you're keen on doing a cooking class in Tokyo let me know and I can put you in touch with them.
After the class we decided to celebrate the day's success with ¥300 drinks down the road.
There was a happy hour here until 6pm so there were a few people taking advantage.
We then headed to SuperDeluxe in Roppongi for an arts and music showcase called This & That. While it's not 100% my thing, it's pretty great they have this kind of night for people.
Early night for us though as we were off to Kobe the next morning. Kobe beef, we're coming for you!
